Control File Concepts

The Control File is unique in that there is no entering of records, only the answering of many different questions.  The Control File contains the answers to over 300 questions.  These answers tell the system how you want things done.  The system will automatically refer to this control information often.  A default set of common answers can be used at installation.  Unlike the other files in the system, you do not assign the record number (record id, or ‘key’).  The record number has already been assigned and the record already exists when the system is first installed.  When you choose an option from the Control File Menu, the control record is automatically displayed and the modification prompt is asked.  Unlike most other records, the control record cannot be deleted it can only be changed.

The options on the Control File Menu should be the first values you complete when entering your initial data.  There are many options listed, some more important than others.  You should read over the sections in the Screens section that discusses the Control File Menu options.  Prior to setting up your information in the control file, it is highly recommended that you read in entirety this Concepts section.   See Also Control File Menu

You may change any of the information any time it is necessary, however, you cannot change your company name without calling AMS and acquiring a new access code.  If you change your company name you will be required to enter your new access code.  Without your new access code the system will not run. Your changes will take effect immediately. If you want to start sending owner notifications next week wait till next week to change it.
