The following is a list of keyboard and mouse references as used in the Resort Management System. Any title or letter enclosed in brackets <>, refers to a key on the keyboard and you would press that key to perform the desired action. Mouse operations are standard and are mentioned here only as a brief review. Collectively, these keystrokes and mouse operations are referred to as "Movement Keys" throughout the Resort Management System.
<Enter>:
Press <Enter> to accept the information you have typed. This will move the cursor to the next text box. It is like telling the computer you have finished this entry and want to enter it in memory. <Tab> will also accept your data and move to the next text box for data entry.
<Backspace>:
Press <Backspace> once to delete the character to the left of the cursor. By holding down the key, the characters will continue to be erased until the beginning of the line is reached.
<Delete>:
Press <Delete> once to delete the character to the right of the cursor. By holding down the key, the characters will continue to be erased until the end of the line is reached.
<Up Arrow>:
When using a List or Select Screen the <Up Arrow> will move the highlight bar up one line, if there is more than one line in the Prompt. When at the top of a list the <Up Arrow> is ignored.
<Down Arrow>:
When using a List or Select Screen the <Down Arrow> will move the highlight bar down one line, if there is more than one line in the Prompt. When at the bottom of a list the <Down Arrow> is ignored.
<Right Arrow>:
When in a text box, the <Right Arrow> will move the cursor one position to the right, until the end of the text is reached. The values are not erased as the cursor moves over them.
When using a List or Select Screen that has more information than the width of the screen, the <Right Arrow> will move the display information so that the right portion of the information is seen. The right scrolling arrow at the bottom of the screen may also be used. When initially displayed all List and Select Screens show the left-most portion of the screen. Not all List or Select Screens have information wider than the screen.
<Left Arrow>:
When in a text box, the <Left Arrow> will move the cursor one position to the left, until the beginning of the text is reached. The values are not erased as the cursor moves over them.
When using a List or Select Screen that has more information than the width of the screen, the <Left Arrow> will move the display information so that the left portion of the information is seen. The left scrolling arrow at the bottom of the screen may also be used. When initially displayed all List and Select Screens show the left-most portion of the screen. This key would only be used if you have used the <Right Arrow> key and need to return to the left portion of the displayed information. Not all List or Select Screens have information wider than the screen.
<Ctrl>:
The Control key is used in conjunction with other keys. It is labeled ‘Ctrl’ on most keyboards.
<Ctrl> + <Right Arrow>:
When in a text box the <Ctrl> + <Right Arrow> key combination will move the cursor one word to the right, until the last word in the text is reached. To use this key combination you must hold down the <Ctrl> key and press the <Right Arrow> key.
<Ctrl> + <Left Arrow>:
When in a text box the <Ctrl> + <Left Arrow key combination will move the cursor one word to the left, until the first word in the text is reached. To use this key combination you must hold down the <Ctrl> key and press the <Left Arrow> key.
<Page Up>:
When using a List or Select Screen the <Page Up> key will move up the list of items by one screen page. The highlight bar will be positioned at the first entry on the new screen page. This allows you to move a screen at a time up through a list of items, until the first screen in the list is displayed.
<Page Down>:
When using a List or Select Screen the <Page Down> key will move down the list of items by one screen page. The highlight bar will be positioned at the first entry on the new screen page. This allows you to move a screen at a time down through a list of items, until the last screen in the list is displayed.
<Home>:
In a text box the [Home] key will move the cursor to the first character in the text.
When using a List or Select Screen the <Home> key will move you to the first item in the list. The highlight bar will be positioned on the first item in the list.
<End>:
In a text box the <End> key will move the cursor to the last character in the text.
When using a List or Select Screen the <End> key will move you to the last item in the list. The highlight bar will be positioned on the last item in the list.
<Esc>:
When using a List or Select Screen the <Esc> key will exit the screen without selecting an item. Right-clicking the mouse anywhere in the screen will also exit the list screen.
Scroll Controls:
When a window containing a select list is not large enough to hold all its information, scroll bars will appear on the right and lower edges of that window. There are standard Windows scroll bars and may be manipulated by clicking the scroll arrows at the end of the boxes or by dragging the scroll box in the desired direction to view the remainder of the list.
