This screen allows you to:
Post existing general ledger transactions to their general ledger accounts. This posting option will change the forward balances of the accounts.
Before you begin:
Choose the Post Transactions option from the General Ledger Menu.
This option is normally performed only once a month. You should have reviewed your trial balance for the month and made any correcting entries prior to running this option. You should also have a good final copy printed of the monthly trial balance.
A transaction that has been posted will not be posted again. You can run this option as many times in the month as needed, however; it is usually best to try and post only once a month. This allows you to print one complete trial balance for the month.
The current trial balance will not include transactions that have been posted. If you archive your transactions you can print the trial balance from the archive file, but the account balance will not show.
This option must be run before the Income Statement and Balance Sheet can be printed. The totals created using this option are used for both of these reports.
This option will first find all journal entry transactions that fall within the requested range of dates. Each transaction will then be posted. The posting process means that the dollar amount of the transaction will be added to the transactions general ledger account. When a journal entry is created, either by the system or the user, the general ledger account is not affected, the transaction is just recorded. This option tells the system to add to the general ledger account (the chart of account) the amount entered for the transaction. The transaction will then be deleted or archived, depending upon the control file setting.
You cannot post transactions outside of the current period. If you are not sure what your current period is, the Close Accounting Period option will tell you. If you choose this option solely to determine your current period, do not proceed with closing the period. Any transactions that are dated less than the first post date or are not within the current period will not be posted; they will be reported on the Transaction Posting Exception Report.
